Hypo-allergenic

Hypo-allergenic published on

If you see “hypoallergenic” on a label it means the product is less likely to cause an allergic reaction. This does NOT mean there will be no reaction for every person as it is impossible to ensure such a blanket outcome.

What this means in the Curly world is that Curly horses, whether curly or smooth coated, are less likely than other breeds to cause a reaction. We, here at Bit-O-WY, try hard to not make a blanket declarative statement about our horses or Curly horses in general claiming all Curly horses to be good for all people with allergies.

Our fear is that with such a statement out there, when a person with allergies has a reaction to a Curly horse it makes the entire Curly world look like liars.

What we will say is, our experience with Curlies has resulted in varied results.

  • One person who tested 6 horses found he had no reaction to 3 horses, a slight reaction to 2 horses and a major reaction to one horse.
  • A later person who tested the 4 horses person one did not purchase reacted to all BUT the one the first person had the major reaction to.

Our conclusion from this and other such examples, each horse and person combination is unique and should be evaluated on an individual basis but for those with allergies and a love of horses, there is likely a Curly horse out there which will provide them an allergy free experience.
